Rush Street Interactive (RSI) has declared that Brian Sapp, a veteran executive, will be their inaugural Chief Marketing Officer.

Sapp will be joining the Rush Street Interactive executive leadership group and will report directly to CEO Richard Schwartz. This marks his initial foray into the gaming sector.

He assumes this new position after nearly three years as Head of Growth for the virtual reality game Rec Room. Sapp also spent three and a half years at video game developer Jam City.

Earlier in his professional journey, Sapp worked at Warner Bros.’ WB Games San Francisco division. There, he served as Director of Digital Publishing, overseeing user acquisition, analytics, and monetization.

Sapp has also held positions at social and mobile app company Tapjoy and EMI Music Publishing. He also established the music discovery website FuzzedOut.com. Furthermore, he has been an advisor and investor in startups for the past eight years.

Sapp aims to contribute to RSI’s continued success.

Commenting on his appointment, Sapp expressed his enthusiasm to join RSI, describing it as an exciting period for the company.

“I am delighted to join Rush Street Interactive at a time when the company possesses such strong momentum,” Sapp stated.

RSIs user-focused strategy truly struck a chord with me. As a marketing professional, I understand that in the cutthroat mobile marketplace, triumph is paramount.

I am eager to utilize my background and expertise to propel marketing outcomes for RSI in its upcoming phase of expansion and provide exceptional encounters for our clientele.

Chief Executive Officer Schwartz also expressed delight at the appointment, stating that Sapp would bolster the company’s ongoing growth objectives.

“As we continue to broaden our reach and expand in the Americas, having a marketing leader with Brian’s distinctive gaming and mobile experience, strategic insights, and creativity will be a valuable asset to the team, aiding us in shaping the future of our brand and continuing to innovate user-centered experiences,” Schwartz remarked.

“We are excited to welcome him on board to direct our marketing strategy, team, and operations.”

Rush Street Interactive Surpasses 2023 Profit Targets
The appointment follows RSI’s announcement last month that it had surpassed its 2023 profit targets, driven by record fourth-quarter performance.

Income increased by 16.7% year-on-year to $691.2 million (£546.1 million/€636.7 million). This figure aligned with the upper end of the $630 million to $700.1 million range it had projected at the start of 2023.

Although RSI remained in the red for the entire year, the $18.3 million deficit was considerably smaller than the $38.6 million loss in 2022. Furthermore, adjusted EBITDA became profitable for the entire year, exceeding RSI’s expectations of achieving profitability only in the latter half of the year.

RSI also seized the opportunity to discuss potential expansion in 2024.

The emphasis will be on the United States and Canada, with operations overseeing numerous markets.

We are especially interested in New York, Maryland, and Illinois, as well as Alberta, Canada, and other regions.
