Mississippi’s wagering market experienced a decline in March, based on the latest data from the state’s gaming authority.
The total amount wagered for the month was $47.9 million, a decrease from $50.5 million in March of the previous year, but an increase from $40.9 million in February.
The state’s sports betting earnings were $4.1 million, down from $5.2 million in the same period last year, but up from $1.9 million in February of this year.
Coastal casinos continued to be the top performers in both earnings and wagering. They brought in $2.2 million in revenue in March, with gamblers placing $31.1 million in bets.
Casinos in the central area generated $1.5 million in revenue from $9.3 million in bets, while northern casinos processed $7.5 million in bets and generated $413,306 in revenue.
Basketball was the most popular sport to bet on across all regions, attracting $22.7 million in wagers at coastal casinos, $3.8 million at central locations, and $5.5 million at northern locations.
The state’s casinos had a total monthly hold of 8.4%, down from the previous year.
