The Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has named Paulo Jorge Moreira Castelo Basaloco as the leader of the Gaming Inspection Division.

Basaloco officially began his role on December 7th, taking the oath of office in the presence of the organization’s head, Adriano Marques Ho. Ho stated during the ceremony that the Gaming Inspection Division is a “critical department” and expressed his hope that Basaloco would “faithfully” carry out his responsibilities. Ho also expressed his desire for Basaloco to be “effective” in enforcing the regulations outlined in Macau’s new gambling law and to build a united work group within the office.

Basaloco first joined the DICJ in 1988, initially working in the Gaming Contract Inspection Division. He holds a degree in Physical Education and Kinesiology from the Macau Polytechnic Institute.

New Regulations

In June, the Macau Legislative Assembly approved the most significant change to Macau’s regulatory system for the gaming industry since its opening in 2002.

The bill, which has been debated since last year, reformed the licensing and tax rules for the Macau Special Administrative Region.

Although the number of casino managers remains at six, new regulations have brought about a widespread tax hike and granted the Macau Chief Executive greater authority to determine the tax rate for each operator.

In November, the Macau government officially granted all six gaming licenses, with one operator, Genting, failing to secure a permit.
