California State Senator Bill Dodd declared he would pull back his proposition to control sports wagering, just a day prior to the planned vote by the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Dodd’s Senate Constitutional Amendment 6, co-authored with Assemblyman Adam Gray, was put on hold earlier this month because its financial impact surpassed $50,000.
The proposition then needed a review by the Appropriations Committee to determine if it should be released from the hold. Initially set for June 18th, the review was later moved to June 23rd.
This meant the bill had only two days remaining to secure the required two-thirds majority vote in both the California Senate and Assembly to be included on the November 2020 ballot.
Dodd clarified that the tight time constraint ultimately ended the bill’s chances.
“Considering the deadline to include a measure on the November ballot and the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on public participation, we were unable to pass this bill this year,” he clarified.
Its crucial to shine a light on this widespread practice, enhance its safety, and generate prosperity for California’s residents. I’ll be closely monitoring this until the year 2022.
