The esteemed Major League Baseball (MLB) is joining forces with the American Gaming Association (AGA) and their “Have a Game Plan, Bet Responsibly” public awareness initiative to amplify their responsible gambling endeavors.
As a “Have a Game Plan” collaborator, MLB will commence broadcasting responsible sports wagering public service announcements across chosen MLB broadcasts and digital media platforms, beginning with the 2022 postseason.
The league will also present campaign partnership opportunities to all 30 MLB teams, while the AGA will provide MLB with advisory services and expertise to enhance responsible gambling knowledge throughout the league through benchmarking and best practices training.
Furthermore, as part of the agreement, MLB will expand its collaboration with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) by becoming a Platinum Member and joining the organization’s leadership group.
MLB will work closely with Executive Director Keith Whyte’s team to create programs related to problem gambling and promote the NCPG’s National Problem Gambling Helpline across its various media platforms. MLB was the initial professional sports league to register as a member of the NCPG in 2005.
The expansion of legal sports wagering across the United States is a significant development. Major League Baseball is dedicated to providing fans who participate in betting with the necessary tools and resources to engage in responsible wagering practices. “With the knowledge and additional resources of the American Gaming Association and the National Council on Problem Gambling, we will be able to further enhance our responsible gaming initiatives, driving new education, awareness and support service programs that help ensure that sports betting is safe, enjoyable and entertaining for all involved,” stated Kenny Gersh, MLB Executive Vice President, Business Development.
Casey Clark, Senior Vice President of the American Gaming Association, added: “MLB joining the ‘Set the Line’ partners is a significant achievement for the league and for national responsible gaming efforts. MLB recognizes that as legal sports betting increases, so does our shared commitment to responsibility. This partnership will have a considerable impact, educating fans throughout the nation about the fundamentals of responsible wagering.”
Keith Whyte of the National Council on Problem Gambling also stated: “We commend MLB’s ongoing commitment to addressing problem gambling and anticipate their expanded efforts to provide responsible gaming education to fans and families nationwide. Knowing where to seek assistance is crucial if gambling becomes an issue. MLB’s extensive reach will have a considerable impact in raising awareness of the National Problem Gambling Hotline and treatment resources.”
