Following a remarkable 28-year tenure, Camelot will hand over the reins to Allwyn, the incoming steward of the UK National Lottery.

The Gambling Commission formally declared Allwyn Entertainment as their preferred candidate for the sought-after fourth National Lottery license earlier today. Rumor has it that Allwyn is a newly established, UK-centric brand operating under the Sazka Group.

Since its 1994 launch, Camelot has been synonymous with the National Lottery. However, the Gambling Commission, spearheaded by Chairman Sir Keith Mills, contends that Allwyn’s proposition will revitalize the lottery and yield even more substantial benefits for charitable endeavors.

To date, the National Lottery has amassed an astounding £45 billion (equivalent to $58.64 billion!) for 660,000 worthy causes throughout the UK, leaving its mark on everything from arts and athletics to cultural heritage and local initiatives.

A group headed by Justin King will now supervise a seamless handover phase, with Allwyn formally assuming control from Camelot on February 1, 2024.

Sir Keith Mills, Chairman of Allwyn, expressed his enthusiasm, remarking: “The National Lottery is a national gem, and we are privileged to be selected as its future guardian. The Gambling Commission has bestowed upon us a significant duty, and we are eager to commence our work. Our objective is to rekindle the public’s passion for the lottery, reminding everyone of its pivotal function in bolstering communities nationwide.”

The UK head of Allwyn, Justin King, shared his enthusiasm for their winning bid to manage the National Lottery. He stressed that their strategy centers on responsible expansion to maximize the lottery’s charitable contributions. King was particularly struck by the thorough assessment undertaken by the Gambling Commission, which demonstrated their comprehensive grasp of the hurdles and prospects for the National Lottery in the future.

Allwyn understands the crucial part the National Lottery has in British life. Their pledge is to enhance this role by broadening the lottery’s reach, guaranteeing a secure and protected playing environment, and ultimately, producing even larger donations to worthy initiatives throughout the UK.
